Kristen’s mother was a painter as well as the head of the local arts council responsible for bringing culture to their relatively small town of Redding, CA. As a result Kristen grew up in galleries, ballets, operas, and was always lovingly encouraged by her artist mother to draw, paint, sew, photograph, make music, or do just about anything her little heart desired. At the age of ten her family started up their own business, a travel agency. This resulted in the luckiest of circumstances as she spent the next 8 years traveling the world. She found herself immersed in the art and culture of countless magical places, all leaving a lasting impression on her artistic vision and world view. As a result, when she became a young adult she studied intently with the dream that she could somehow be creative for a living.
After a lot of hard work she started her professional career as a photographer and graphic designer. Then following the entrepreneurial footsteps of her mother she created rococonouveau. Her all-encompassing creative venture where Kristen can use all the creative skills at her disposal to once again draw, paint, sew, photograph, make music, or do just about anything her little heart desires.
For as long as she can remember, Kristen has felt a particular connection to things of the past: vintage and period fashions, early 20th century classic film, vintage erotica & pinup photography, art deco architecture, art nouveau textiles & jewelry, and the gilded splendor of the rococo era. The goal in all her personal projects is to merge the essence of these core inspirations with the modernity of the 21st century. Thereby preserving the beauty of these bygone styles in a way that is relevant to today’s aesthetics. Hence, the name rococonouveau.
Kristen is currently featuring a series of paintings which she calls “A Ghost Story by Kristen Adam” Inspired by decorative arts, decadent arts, and early 20th century female rebellion. Many of these pieces reference vintage photographs taken of 1920′s chorus girls and attempt to keep their sassy spirits alive via painted transmutation. Each piece tells the story of an individual, some truth and some fabricated, but when dealing with ghosts only the legend truly makes them real.
But she doesn’t plan on stopping there! Kristen has big plans for rococonouveau and will be regularly designing new pieces to add to her collection. Keep an eye out here to stay in the loop about her latest inspirations and fancy designs, or “Like” rococonouveau on facebook to be kept in the know.
